Festival submissions are open to films applying all animation techniques, including combinations with live action and documentary. Over 50% of the production must be animated, and the Festival reserves the right to determine whether an entry qualifies as animation.
Films should be completed after 1 January 2022. Films entered for previous editions of the festival will not be taken into consideration.
Short films (maximum running time 30 minutes) can be submitted to the following competition categories:
1. Short Animated Films (Grandtoon) – Short-format, non-commissioned animated films or videos
2. Animated Films for Children (Planktoon) – Animated films produced and distributed specifically for children audience (in case of a series, only one episode is eligible)
3. Animated Music Videos (Supertune) – Official music videos, commissioned animated videos made specifically to promote music pieces
4. Student Short Animated Films (Studentoon) – Short-format, non-commissioned students animated films or videos
The Festival reserves the right to determine whether an entry qualifies for the chosen competition category. There is no entry fee. Online entry forms are available on the official Festival website: www.supertoonfestival.com
Submission deadline is May 1, 2024.
The Festival does not pay screening fees for the works selected for the competition programs.
‣ For each film the applicant is required to fill out a separate online entry form and submit a preview screener of the film.
‣ The online application must contain these additional materials: director’s photograph; 3 still images from the film (min. 300 dpi); dialogue list in English.
‣ The submitted work must be in the final edited version.
‣ Unfinished films will not be taken into consideration.
‣ Films with dialogue or narration in languages other than English should have English subtitles. Films with dialogue or narration in English are recommended to be entered with a screener with English subtitles.
‣ A preview screener can be submitted online – by entering a link and a password for download in the online application form, or sent via the We transfer platform. Preview screener must be available for download until May 1, 2024.
Preview screener of the film, digital file, needs to have the following technical specifications:
Format: Quicktime or MPEG4; Codec: H264; FPS: Native;
Resolution:1920×1080; bitrate: max. 10000kbit/s.
Films with dialogues or narration in languages other than English must have integrated English subtitles.
The film selection is carried out by the Artistic Director in collaboration with selected professionals. Their duty is to preview each work entered on time and decide upon final film selection. The list of films selected for the competition programs will be announced on the Festival’s official website no later than 1 June 2024. All applicants will be notified about the selection results. Each director whose film is chosen for the official festival program will be contacted by the Festival management for hospitality arrangements.
The Festival reserves the right to refuse a screening copy of dubious technical condition that may cause problems during the screening. Films with dialogues or narration in languages other than English must have integrated English subtitles.
Members of the international juries of the Short Films Competition, Student Short Films Competition, Animated Music Videos Competition and Animated Commercials Competition are proposed by the Artistic Director and approved by the Festival Council. Films for Children Competition jury consists of five children aged 6 to 14.
Each applicant declares to be the author or rights owner of the submitted film(s) and to own all literary, dramatic and musical rights and gives them to the festival for use free of charge for the purpose of competing at the festival. The producers and directors of award-winning films can mention the name of the prize, the year and the name of the Festival (Supertoon – International Animation Festival) in all promotional materials for their film. Preview screeners of the films will not be returned, but will be included in the Festival’s library. The Festival reserves the right to use the films for strictly non-commercial, educational purposes. The Festival has the right to use all materials submitted through the application form, as well as a film excerpt up of to 10 percent of the total length of the film, no longer than 30 seconds, for promotional purposes.
Participation in the Festival, and its film submission process, implies acceptance, without reservation, of the terms of the hereby stated rules and regulations. The entry form is valid without a signature or a stamp.

Comic editions that can be submitted to the Festival competition are print editions, regardless of the technique used, provided that their content is at least 70 % comics, and the Festival reserves the right, as part of the selection process, to determine whether the submission qualifies as a comic edition.
Comic editions that can be submitted must be published in their print forms between January 1, 2022 and the time of submission.
Comic editions of unlimited lengths and circulations can be submitted for the following competition categories:
1.Comic book edition (album) – a printed comic book edition by a single author / co-authors
2.Comic magazine – a printed comic edition that contains works by two or more authors
3.Fanzine edition – a non-professional printed comic book edition (without ISBN / ISSN) by a single author / co-authors or more authors
The Festival reserves the right to determine whether the submission qualifies for the competition category selected by the applicant.
There is no submission fee. The submission deadline is May 1, 2024. The Festival does not pay a fee for the presentation of works selected for the competition programs.

For each comic edition, the applicant must fill in a separate online application form and send the edition in digital form for the selection process.
In addition to information about the comic, the online application needs to contain these additional materials:
– biography and photo of the author;
– 3 presentable photos from the comic edition (min. 300 dpi);
– dialog lists in English, if necessary;
The submitted work must be in its final publishing version. Comic editions with dialogues and / or text in languages other than English or Croatian should have separate dialog lists in English. The digital selection copy of the comic edition should be in .pdf format.
A digital selection copy of the comic edition can be sent:
1.By entering the download link and password in the online application form
2.Via the Wetransfer platform
A physical copy of the comic editions to be presented at the Festival should be sent by July 1, 2024 to the Festival address.
Comics that do not have physical, printed editions or have not been submitted to the Festival by the given date will not be considered for awards.
The selection of comic editions for competition in one of the categories is carried out by the Festival artistic director and team. It is their duty to read each submitted work on time and decide on the final selection of the comic editions for the competition. The list of comic editions selected for the competition programs will be published on the official website of the Festival no later than June 1, 2024. All applicants will be informed of the results of the selection. The Festival management will contact each applicant whose comic edition has been selected for the official Festival program in order to arrange the details of the presentation of their work and their attendance of the Festival.
In order for their comics to be presented within the competition categories at the Festival, as well as for the jury to be able to decide on the winners, the applicants must send one copy of the print edition of the comic to the Festival address:

Neither the digital copies nor the print editions submitted for selection, presentation and competition judging will be returned, but will be included in the Festival archives.
Members of the international jury of the competition for the Best Comic Book Edition (Album), the Best Comic Magazine, and the Best Fanzine are nominated by the artistic director and approved by the Festival Council. The duty of the jury is to attend the Festival and, on the basis of print editions of the comics presented through the competition programs at the Festival, select laureates by category.
Each applicant declares to be the author or owner of the rights to the submitted comic and to own all the illustration and literary rights, and to give the Festival permission to freely use the submitted works for the purposes of competing in the Festival and only for the duration of the Festival. Editors, publishers and authors of the comic editions awarded at the Festival can mention the name of the award, the year and the name of the Festival in all their promotional materials. The Festival reserves the right to use the comic editions for strictly non-commercial, educational purposes. The Festival has the right to use all materials submitted through the application form, as well as one page from the submitted comic edition, for the purposes of promotion of the Festival.
Participation in the Festival and submitting the application form implies acceptance of the terms of all of the above rules and regulations, without reservation.
