FESTIVAL JURY

MICHAL BOBROWSKI. In 2010 obtained his Ph. D. in Film Studies. Programme Director of StopTrik International Film Festival, an event focused on stop motion animation held since 2011 in Slovenia and Poland. Lecturer on Jagiellonian University in Krakow, curator, cultural activist, author of a book dedicated to work of Akira Kurosawa, numerous articles devoted to classic Japanese and American cinema as well as worldwide animated film.

ROK PREDIN graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 2005. After touring Europe in bands playing everywhere from back room bars to stadiums, he began to experiment with animation as a tool to tell abstract stories, mixing sound and imagery together for the first time. Since signing with Trunk in 2009 he’s created projects for Elton John, Madness, Keith Urban and The Rolling Stones as well as directing commercials and broadcast identities for international clients, whilst always continuing to make his own films, telling his own stories, in his own unique style. These have gone on to win awards and screen at festivals all over the world.

PETRA ZLONOGA completed an MA in graphic design at the School of Design in 2007 and an MA in animation and new media at the Academy of Fine Arts, Zagreb in 2011. She currently works as a freelance animator, illustrator and graphic designer.

For succeeding on the territory where some of the greatest have failed, my special mention goes to Marko Meštrović’s Levitation.

The sinergy between the visuals and the music and imaginating approach to handdrawn animation is what makes Girl Seizure by Gabe Mangold the winner of this year’s best animated music video award.

For impressive character animation and multilayered use of contrasts goes to the Russian guy Ivan Zolotukhin with the music video Black.

For a well depicted atmosphere of the American south, for simple, but yet clever animation and of course for the cowboy, my special mention goes to As Luck Would Have It by Tom Rosenthal!

For a clever use of preexisting characters and for impeccable stop animation, the award for best animated commercial goes to Fight by Emma de Swaef and Marc James Roels.

Playing on the notion of a pop-up book, with a sinister, yet gripping atmosphere, the opening title ABCs Death 2 by Wolfgang Matzl is our choice for the award in this category.

 

WINNER IN COMPETITION OF SHORT ANIMATED FILMS FOR CHILDREN

TWO FRIENDS / DEUX  AMIS / Chernysheva Natalia | France | 4:04

A good dose of dark humour in a story about an unlikely friendship, told through a minimalistic yet expressive design is what convinced the Jury that the recipient of this year’s award for best children’s animated short is Two friends by Natalia Chernysheva!

For a witty and dynamic buildup of the story and a surprising choice of the protagonist, the special mention goes to „1,2,3“ from Yulia Aronova!
